Kay Moore Johnson has provided the following information:
My Mother was Mary Nell Sheffield, and her father was Jess Sheffield. His father was Frierson Sheffield, who was in Company F,
2nd Mississippi Cavalry.
Frierson "Byler" Sheffield was born 11-4-1845 and died in 1940. He
enlisted at Pittsboro, Mississippi at the age of 16. After the war, about 1873, he
married Julia Taylor, born 1856, Georgia. They had four boys. His wife
died and he remarried. His second wife was Lavinia Jane "Jennie" Kilgore,
born 2-13-1855. They married on 11-4-1885. They had 8 children.
Tillman and Joel were Frierson's older brothers.
Tillman was born in 1833 in Alabama and Joel was also born in Alabama in 1831.
The family moved to Mississippi from Alabama to Lowndes County, MS and from
there to Chickasaw County Ms. He and his household were enumerated on the 1840
Chickasaw County census. The family ultimately settled in the area of
Chickasaw which became part of Calhoun County MS.
Beverly Crowell Wilkerson has provided this information:
My ancestor, Robert W. Crowell, is incorrectly listed as Robert J.
Crowell. I have his pension papers. He was wounded in the leg (and his
horse was shot) at the battle of Franklin. He is buried in Washita Co., OK.
Bonnie Frederick has provided the following information on her ancestor, Giles Smith:
Giles Smith was born August 19, 1835 in the town of Union in Union County,
South Carolina. By 1860, he had moved to Calhoun County, Mississippi and
shortly thereafter, married Rebecca Bounds. Giles died August 20, 1886 and is
buried in the Pittsboro Cemetery. Rebecca died in 1913.
