Mardi Gras 2008 !!

The Days Inn at Crowley, Louisiana.
Two words..."Never Again"

On Saturday morning, we drove to Church Point for breakfast and to check out the community.
We will return to watch their Mardi Gras parade on Sunday. The people there were very hospitable.

Our trip continued through the backroads of Acadiana to Eunice. The party had not yet started.
It was a good chance to familiarize ourselves with the town

The folks in Mamou have discovered that it's never too early to party! The streets were filling
before noon and the music had begun. There were lots of bikes and everyone was having a good time.

A party had begun when we returned to Eunice later on Saturday. Another live band kept the crowd entertained.
The evening was highlighted by a visit to the Liberty Theater and a great Cajun music show!

The parade at Church Point on Sunday afternoon had everything Mardi Gras should be. The traditional dress
costumes were everywhere. The children were scrambling for beads and doubloons. There were visitors from
all across the United States. We were fortunate enough to meet a nice couple from Minnesota who were enjoying
the atmosphere of the celebration and the good music.

Monday we drove back toward Church Point to look at one of the boats used by crawfish farmers. It seems they
use paddlewheel technology for propulsion. Then we continued on to Eunice to listen to more music.
At Mamou, we found an eatery to avoid if you're in a hurry. The food was decent but I had to wait forty
minutes for a shrimp po-boy and a shrimp plate. They ask for payment up front, otherwise their clients would
cancel orders after waiting so long. Just like the Days Inn...Never Again!

Mardi Gras Day started with a great breakfast at P.J.'s in Crowley. The celebration in Eunice was a blast!
The kids were decked out in their costumes and the dances had started. The adults also costumed. We met more nice
visitors from out of town. One couple was from DeRidder, Louisiana. There were lots of horses and floats, revelers
in traditional costumes, and much alcohol.

All in all, our trip to Acadiana to witness their Mardi Gras was a huge success. If you ever get a chance, DO IT!!
